Job Description

As a Set Designer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing and designing event sets that align with the client’s theme and objectives. You will work closely with the event planning and production teams to ensure that the design is both creative and practical. Your role will include creating detailed plans, selecting materials, and overseeing set construction and installation to ensure everything is executed perfectly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with clients and event planners to understand design concepts and event requirements.
  • Develop creative and functional set designs, ensuring they meet aesthetic and logistical needs.
  • Create detailed sketches, models, and plans for approval.
  • Select and source materials for construction, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee the construction, assembly, and installation of sets.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including lighting, sound, and technical teams, to ensure the set complements the overall event production.
  • Ensure sets are built to safety standards and comply with event regulations.
  • Manage set breakdown after the event, ensuring efficient deconstruction and transportation of materials.
  • Stay updated on design trends and innovative materials to bring fresh ideas to each project.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Set Designer, ideally in events, theatre, or television production.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing previous set designs for various types of events.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp) and hand-drawing techniques.
  • Creative thinking with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed for event setups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or qualification in Set Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience with large-scale event production, such as corporate events, exhibitions, or festivals.
  • Knowledge of lighting, sound, and staging elements that integrate with set designs.
